Designed for Sotheby's New York, this exhibition environment was conceived as both a setting and a statement, creating a space where internationally celebrated works of art could be experienced within an interior that was equally thoughtful, expressive, and unexpected. Rather than serving as a neutral backdrop, the design sought to establish an ongoing dialogue between architecture, materiality, and the extraordinary collection it was created to showcase.

Sotheby's New York

Masterworks by Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Christo, Harry Bertoia, Joan Miró, and Ed Ruscha were thoughtfully positioned throughout the space, allowing each piece to engage not only with the viewer but also with its surroundings. Every design decision was guided by the belief that interiors can shape the experience of art as profoundly as the artwork itself.

To reinforce this idea, Daun Curry Studio collaborated with a local artist to develop a custom architectural finish unlike any conventional wall treatment. Created from commercial-grade eye shadow, the surface subtly shimmered and shifted as visitors moved through the gallery, responding to changing light and perspective throughout the day. The walls themselves became an immersive installation, celebrating experimentation, craftsmanship, and the transformative power of material innovation.

Every surface contributed to a layered visual experience, creating a setting where design and art continually informed one another while honoring Sotheby's longstanding legacy of connoisseurship and cultural dialogue.
